If you're sitting your AQA GCSE Biology exam in 2027, now is the perfect time to start building good revision habits. Starting early gives you the advantage of spacing out your learning — one of the most effective revision strategies backed by science.
This 4-week plan is designed to fit around your school timetable and can be repeated multiple times before your exams. Whether you're neurotypical or neurodivergent, the structure here is designed to reduce overwhelm and keep you making progress.
Week 1: Cell Biology & Organisation
Start with the foundations. Cell biology underpins everything else in GCSE Biology, so getting this solid early pays dividends later.
- Cell structure (prokaryotic vs eukaryotic)
- Cell division — mitosis and the cell cycle
- Transport in cells — diffusion, osmosis, active transport
- Organisation — tissues, organs, organ systems
💡 Tip: Use retrieval practice rather than re-reading notes. Test yourself on key definitions and processes daily — it's proven to improve long-term memory retention.

Week 2: Infection, Response & Bioenergetics
- Communicable diseases and the immune system
- Vaccination and antibiotics
- Photosynthesis — the equation, limiting factors, and required practicals
- Respiration — aerobic and anaerobic
💡 Tip for ADHD/neurodivergent learners: Break each topic into 20-minute focused sessions with a 5-minute break. Colour-code your notes by topic to make them easier to navigate when reviewing.
Week 3: Homeostasis, Inheritance & Variation
- The nervous system and hormonal coordination
- Homeostasis — blood glucose, temperature, water levels
- Reproduction — sexual vs asexual, DNA and the genome
- Inheritance — Mendel, genetic crosses, inherited disorders
💡 Tip: Genetic crosses trip up a lot of students. Practise drawing Punnett squares until they feel automatic — it's a guaranteed mark in the exam.
Week 4: Ecology & Exam Practice
- Ecosystems, food chains, and biodiversity
- The carbon cycle and human impact on the environment
- Past paper practice — aim for at least 2 full papers under timed conditions
- Review any topics you're still unsure on
💡 Tip: Don't skip the 6-mark questions. Practise writing structured answers using the mark scheme as a guide — these are often where students lose the most marks.
