Why GCSE Science Revision Feels Overwhelming (And How to Fix It)
GCSE Science covers three subjects — Biology, Chemistry, and Physics — each with dozens of topics, equations, and required practicals to learn. It's no wonder so many students don't know where to start.

Step 1: Know Your Exam Board
Before you revise anything, check which exam board you're on. The three main ones are:
- AQA — the most common in England
- OCR — including Gateway and 21st Century Science
- Edexcel — also known as Pearson
Each board has slightly different content and required practicals, so make sure your revision materials match your specification.
Step 2: Get a Copy of Your Specification
Your specification is the official list of everything you could be tested on. Download it free from your exam board's website and use it as a checklist — tick off topics as you learn them.

Step 3: Use Retrieval Practice (Not Just Re-Reading)
Research consistently shows that retrieval practice — actively recalling information from memory — is far more effective than re-reading notes or highlighting.
Instead of reading your textbook again, try:
- Answering questions without looking at your notes
- Using flashcards
- Doing past paper questions topic by topic

Step 4: Tackle the Maths Early

Required practicals come up in every GCSE Science exam — usually worth 15% of your marks. You need to know the method, variables, results, and analysis for each one.
